Are you PrEP(ared)? PrEP Basics and Knowledge Dissemination – with Harlan Pruden

Join this conversation with Harlan Pruden, a returning presenter at the UBC Learning Circle.

It is important to have these conversations about safe sex and healthy relationships, but that can be a lot easier said than done. Worried about how your new or existing partner is going to react? You’re not alone, many people have those fears. Join us in this topic on how to make these conversations work.

Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is one way to help prevent HIV. Prophylaxis simply means disease prevention. In this approach, people who do not have HIV take one pill once a day to prevent them from acquiring HIV if they are exposed; for example, if a condom breaks during intercourse, or being active without a condom, or sharing a needle with someone who has HIV. First Nations and Inuit People of BC are the first to have access to publicly-funded PrEP, yet so few people know what is PrEP, who is PrEP for, and basic information on PrEP access and coverage. This interactive workshop facilitated by Harlan Pruden will provide PrEP basics and then create a safe space for a community-based conversation on another tool in our HIV prevention toolkit.
