About the Presenters:

Cathie Wilson

Gilakasla, most people know me as Cathie Wilson – pronouns she, her.  I am of Filipino ancestry but have had the honour to live and play for over 42 years in the territories of the Kwakwaka’wakw Peoples.  In 2001, I was adopted into the Walkus/Charlie family of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw and in 2011 was also given a name by the I’nis family of the ‘Namgis.  He’ma̱n dłiǥa̱mi Hamusgamgoliłi’lakw gayu’tła̱n lax̱ ‘Nakwaxda’xw Ta̱mta̱mtła̱ls, dłu Helikilikaso gayu’tła̱n lax̱ Gwa’sa̱la Gigi̱lga̱m, dłu Gwa̱lsila’og̱wa gayu’tła̱n lax̱ ‘Na̱mgis Gigi̱lga̱m.  I am married to a Métis man who regularly practices traditional indigenous ceremonies (sweats, pipe ceremonies, traditional healing/cleansing ceremonies, etc.).  I humbly travel on this journey with my indigenous families – I carry my pipe as a Sundancer and assist at, participate and dance in Potlatches.  I am honoured to be the mother to two beautiful Métis-pinos, “auntie/mom” to three Bi’bakwam, and auntie to many.

I have been working with the Gwa’sa̱la-‘Nakwaxda’xw Health & Family Services as the Outreach Worker for the Gwa’dzi Managed Alcohol Program for almost a year and bring twenty five years of experience volunteering and doing outreach work in these territories – doing health promotion, harm reduction, and sexual health education/promotion.

I look forward to sharing information about our program with you.

Alexa Bisaillon (she/they) Gwa’dzi Managed Alcohol Program Team Lead
I am a Registered Nurse and the Team Lead for the Gwa’dzi Managed Alcohol Program, having been with GMAP since it’s inception. I am of settler-origin and was born in Montreal, Quebec, where I completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. I have spent my professional career working in acute medicine, community psychiatry, Housing First programming, Indigenous community health, as well as outreach-based mental health and substance use support programs. I believe in providing holistic care within a harm reduction and trauma-informed lens.
